Internship opportunities with institutions on the cutting edge
Andrew Klinkman is working on power storage at Tesla. And the Duke Energy Initiative is a big reason why.
Klinkman interned at Tesla during his M.E.M./M.B.A. program. “It’s the hub that connects everything about energy on campus,” he said. “The people at the Energy Initiative have been absolutely great about connecting you with people in the energy industry, as well as being a central place where you can come and learn new things.”
Klinkman loved the interdisciplinary study of his dual-degree program. He took classes at five different schools, including big data at the Sanford School of Public Policy, energy law at Duke Law School, project finance at The Fuqua School of Business, power markets at Nicholas School of the Environment, and power systems at Pratt School of Engineering.
The aim of Duke’s Energy Initiative—to improve human development globally by focusing on advancing accessible, affordable, reliable, and clean energy—is no easy feat.
“The M.E.M./M.B.A. includes the breadth you get from an M.B.A.—knowledge of finance, of accounting, of different business principles,” Klinkman said, “along with depth you get from a technical understanding of power concepts.”
